The Green Tribune – 2025

In partnership with: ŽALGIRIS

The Green Tribune is a long-term initiative by Baltijos Lizdas and BC Žalgiris, uniting basketball, communities, and the vision of a greener Lithuania. In 2025, the campaign was tested in a pilot format – the “Greenest Fan” contest, inviting communities across the country to showcase how they contribute to positive change in their surroundings.

The contest was won by the Raseiniai Physical Culture and Sports Centre, which installed a rooftop solar power plant now covering most of its electricity needs. Beyond that, the center promotes environmental awareness through tree-planting drives, annual clean-up events, and by encouraging green transport habits — such as young athletes and coaches cycling to training sessions. Their efforts became a local example of how sports communities can both reduce environmental impact and inspire the next generation.

The main prize — a Žalgiris 3×3 basketball tournament hosted in Raseiniai — turned into a city-wide celebration that brought together sport, education, and green ideas. Dozens of teams and hundreds of participants joined the event, while green education activities reached an even wider audience.

Throughout the campaign, over half a million people were reached through Žalgiris channels and events, with many fans encountering renewable energy topics through their favorite sport for the first time. For its leadership, Žalgiris was recognized as the “Most Sustainable Club” in the EuroLeague, proving that environmental change can be exciting, accessible, and rooted in pride for one’s community.

This year’s experience laid the foundation for the continued growth of the Green Tribune – a platform where Lithuanian sports and local communities come together with a shared goal: to build a stronger, cleaner, and energy-smart future for Lithuania.
